It not like we don have plenty of toys in every room of our house (from wooden puzzles and a plethora of board books to stuffed animals and blocks and balls, we got that covered). But somehow Clara still finds joy in non toy items. In fact, some of them thrill her more than any of her toys do. Like her Christmas boxes. These were boxes from Dylan Candy Bar that were filled with pretzels and sweets that John mom received over Christmas when we gathered there with the fam. Clara took a special interest in stacking and tapping and hugging the boxes, so they ended up being graciously handed over to us on our way out the door. Fast forward over three months later, and they still one of her favorite things. She takes great pleasure in building things with them, knocking them over, filling them with various blocks and balls, and even just laying on the ground gazing up at one of them. Maybe it the bold colors. Maybe it the fun sound they make when you tap on them or knock them over, or maybe she just senses that they not meant for kids so it makes them especially appealing (like remote controls, cell phones, keys, and all those other things that babies seem to obsess over). She also has a serious penchant for playing with our Bananagrams game (it a board game for grown ups that kind of like Scrabble). She loves the sound it makes when she tosses or taps the big cloth sack. And she loves how heavy and squishy the bag is. It like her Christmas boxes, she just can get enough. Of course this is one of those items that we only let her play with when we paying close attention (since if she somehow got the bag unzipped we worry that the Scrabble like tiles inside could be a choking hazard). So lets hear it. What not a toy item has your child deemed their favorite toy of all? Is it your sunglasses? Your credit card? Your hair brush? Do tell. It the cellphone for Danny. He loves it so much that I gave him my old one. It still has pictures and videos of him on it and he knows just the right combination of buttons to push to make them appear (he just turned 3 last week, but he been doing this for a few months now). I kept the charger for that phone too, so when the battery dies I charge it back up again. Since it not hooked up with a plan or anything, he can call anyone on it, but I put it in mode all the same. But it kept him entertained for the 3 hour car ride to my dad house last summer! We tried buying him toy cellphones. All kinds, some looked real, some were obviously fake, some played music, some made realistic sounds. All ended up being given away because he didn play with them and he still wanted MY phone. Boxes are also a big hit. He dump a basket of random toys in, cover it up and call it good. There are also a million other things I not listing. He really is strange, but I love that about him. My second daughter has really no interest in baby toys. I also have a 2 year old, so our house is filled with toys. However, Lulu (the 11 month old) just pushes them out of her way to get to everything else. She stays busy doing the same thing with tupperware drawer. The other thing that keeps her in one place for longer than 2 minutes wallet! She work on taking the credit cards in and out of the wallet. This all makes me realize we need to pack some toys up and send them off to someone else really don need so much! My 16m son the more expensive an electronic item may be, the more my son wants it. Cameras, phones, remotes, controllers But he also happy with a small cardboard box (the ones that are used as dividers in a tampon box). He carries it around puts stuff in it and shake it out. He stand on it, throw it over the gate, give it to his best friend (our 16lbs shih tzu mix) lol Actually I guess I could say his best friend is his favorite toy. He lays on her, pokes her, follows her, giggles when she follows him, pets her (more like hits, but she let him) he tries to lick her (I stop him or he would) and squeels when she licks him. He calls to her when he in his high chair and shares his toys and food (which I try to stop). He also finds her toys and gives them to her. In fact his first word was her name, Leia (pronounced lay a). (as in princess leia from star wars) Old Cell phones can call 9 1 1 in the US also. If a cell phone has ever been activated it can call 9 1 1. Often if a 9 1 1 call comes in from a cell phone without service and there is no sound, dispatch centers scramble to see if they can find any name or address that would go with that number in their files. (The caller ID only shows the last 7 numbers the area code comes up as 911 IE: 911 ) The last cell service provider is faxed a 9 1 1 request for info on that phone number with a guess as to the area code. Large metro areas have many area codes! If a local address can be found emergency services are sent to the location to make sure that there isn any problem. So your baby, toddler or child could quite possibly be calling 9 1 1 and utilizing emergency services without your knowledge. This all costs your area emergency centers tax and the costs are passed on to you and other cell phone users in the form of a 9 1 1 tax on your cell phone bill. This tax will be going up more and more as more usage of cells phones happens. Be responsible the battery from that old cell phone if a baby, toddler or child is playing with it. The battery can also be VERY HARMFUL to little ones if they should accidentally remove it! I can believe I putting this out there but my youngest son seriously LOVED to play with a box of tampons when he was a baby. He luckily has no memory of this but we have video of him sitting on the bathroom floor with them spread all over the place, unwrapping them, taking them apart It started b/c sometimes I would need to shower and he would hang out on the bathroom floor with some of HIS toys while I took my 2 minute shower. Of course his toys were of no interest so enter the love for tampons. Perfect wedding video footage someday guy! My son, now 6, use to be obsessed with plastic bowls, like the ones we use for leftovers. He would get them out of the cupboard, dump them on the floor and spin them. He would get several going at once. A friend and I once tried to spin some bowls too, but we could never get the wrist action right. Right now he has his eye on my iPod Touch so I have to hide it from him. Our 3 year old daughter is obsessed with baby wipes. She always stealing some from the box. The 7 month old is mainly obsessed with her own toys and pacifier right now. It will be interesting to see what takes her fancy as she gets older. When my 3 yo dd became mobile, it was wires. My child favorite toy for months was a surge protector!!! It was SO bizarre. Our living was totally baby proofed and she was caged in there (it was the safe zone, where we could walk away for a minute and not be worried about her getting into trouble!) so she wasn able to plug the thing in. What was funny is she never put it in her mouth (this was the ONLY thing that did not end up in her mouth) but she loved the way it felt. She would feel along the holes and play with the prongs. She could play with that thing for hours! My youngest loves shoes of every sort. This Internet site provides information of a general nature and is designed for educational purposes only. She wears them only during the day. She had no trouble adjusting to them. When we were given the braces we also received a pair of shoes. The problem with "regular" shoes is that we cannot find them wide enough to fit over the braces. They have defintely helped. DD has them because of extremely low tone. She also has very loose joints. The braces help her ankles stay and her flat. At first we wore them only for an hour or so at a time. Each day we would keep them on a little longer until she was in the around 75% of the day. I hope they work well for you. Good luck!! Peyton has braces and he walks much better with them than without. He only wears them during the day to support his muscle and ligaments around his ankles. He has very loose joints. have had them a little under a year. At first we wore them a little bit at a time, we increased the amount of time he wore them each day. Peyton had no trouble adjusting to the AFOs. I buy his shoes at stride rite a size bigger than his regular shoes and wider. I sometimes have to pull the cushion out of the shoe to help them fit a little better. have wide and extra wide which is wonderful. You want to buy the shoe just big enough for the brace to fit in. Make sure you bring them when you go shoe shopping!!!! good luck The twins were 18 months old when they got their AFO's. They h a t e d hem. They only wear them in the daytime, and it took a good 2 3 weeks before they would tolerate them well. They would cry when we put them on, and so I thought I was hurting them, which made me take them off and try again and again, why made them cry more, etc. We finally got through it, though, and now they wear them without comlaint. Lauren tends to wiggle her toes to the point that her heel lifts up off the sole of the AFO and it looks awkward and uncomfortable, so I have to redo hers several times per day. got DAFO's, which I think is just the brand? It says Cascade on the buckle, if that makes a difference. We brought our PT with us to the fitting appointment. If Noah has a PT and that person has an opinion about AFO's, definitely consider asking them to come along with you to the appt. The main PITA (aside from the cost of them!) is that it makes it harder to get them out of, say, a high chair at a restaurant, or out of the stroller with a snack tray. The top of the AFO stop just below their knees, and it catches on things when I try to lift them out of the stroller or restaurant high chair. kids don't walk, so I can't help with on shoes. you'll get through it. Noah will get through it. And FWIW, ours definitely took less than 2 weeks to come in. The best part was getting to pick out the colors! I think I have a picture of them here somewhere, which I will find for you right now because I'm such an attention whore: Caleb has AFOs for about a year now. He started wearing them at least 1/2 day starting in January. (His stop just above the ankle). At first, they bothered him. The people who made them, made them just a little too big (room to grow), which would've been fine, except he's not walking yet and the velcro gets stuck on the carpet, other things and it was annoying. He finally fit right in them about Jan., so we started wearing them more and more. Still not walking yet sigh. But I think the the "correct" positioning of the AFO and the support it gives, balanced with the input of bare feet is a good thing. had to buy a size bigger shoe (Target) and tear out the insides in order to fit the AFO in it. Thank you so much everyone for the wealth of information. It was so helpful to see the pictures also. Our fitting is next week and hopefully we will have them within a few weeks. Noah just turned two so I am hoping the AFO's and continuing with PT will get him going. He is making progress on pulling up on furniture which is great. He actually pulled up in his crib tonight on his own when I went to give him a good night kiss that was a first!!! again thanks for the information I will let everyone know how it goes. We went yesterday to get fit for Noah's AFO's and the guy was actually surprised that we hadn't come in before. He mentioned that most kids with low tone get fit with braces called SMA's when they are around 13 months and aren't walking yet. I hadn't heard this before and it was only about 2 months ago when our PT suggested that we see an orthopedic dr. The AFO's will actually go up on his calf but I know they also do sometimes fit them for AFO's but then cut them down to make shoe inserts. Not sure if that helps or not. 395709 601 Air Jordan 2 II Retro QF Candy Pack Varsity Red Black White,SEATTLE, WA August 30, 2013 NVIDIA today announced a new promotion that will give gamers a total of $75 of in game currencies to a trio of the hottest free to play games: Warframe, Neverwinter and Marvel Heroes.
